OPPOSITION CUT MOTION DEFEATED; UPA SURVIVES
The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government easily survived the cut motion moved by the Opposition on Tuesday. With Lalu Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav deciding to not vote in favour of the cut motion moved by the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Government faced no difficulty in securing the majority of the Lok Sabha. While 246 MPs voted against the cut motion, only 162 voted in favour of it. Opposition parties had brought the cut motions to protest Government inability to control prices of essential commodities including fuels and fertilisers. read more
